Behind The Scenes – Styling Work @ Macy’s Designer Event

Posted in Fashion Events, Fashion Show, Styling by Kristen on April 2, 2010

From time to time I work with a production company, assisting the main stylist with her events. It’s always great to work shows like these this past week. They are different from typical styling work, and easier I should say, because we have the designer clothing right at our fingertips from the sales floor, versus  on a television show, where you have to pull clothes from various locations, sign it out, and lug it back to the site for the fittings.  Styling is a lot of work! If you are considering a job styling, keep that in mind.

The model each had three different looks. They were on display in the center isle for about 20 mins in each look. Our models were great – a few started dancing to keep themselves entertained, the ladies ate it up and the guys bought the clothes they were rocking. That’s a job well done.

This is basically what you’ll find back stage. Our working space was about 6ft x 6ft – four dressers and four models. This event was much easier than a typical fashion show, because we were not stressing for time like you would be for a runway show.  The key here is to stay organized – clothes flying everywhere, knowing what shoe goes with what outfit, etc. Men are SO much easier than girls because they don’t have purses, accessories, etc, which can take forever! This show was awesome! Hardly working.

I met the lovely Sarah who was also working the event. She’s in school for Fashion Design at FIDM.   She got a few snaps with the boys. You might recognize Jonathan Waud from Season 2′s Make Me A Supermodel on the right. I had the pleasure of working directly with him for the past two events.   He’s a super nice guy, family man and now working and living  Los Angeles.
