Flea Market Fabulousness for my LA Friends

Posted in Fashion Events, LA Events by Kristen on April 14, 2010

I went Hollywood last night for a photography show and happily discovered Space 15Twenty.   If you are in the Los Angeles area and looking to get inspired, you can pretty much just check out their website to find something cool going. From pop-up shops to, new designer collections and flea markets every third Sunday – they have you definitely have you covered

If you happen to not be attending Cochella this weekend…..(long silent pause), you can catch it this Sunday. If not, for the majority of you, there is always next month.

Behind The Scenes – Styling Work @ Macy’s Designer Event

Posted in Fashion Events, Fashion Show, Styling by Kristen on April 2, 2010

From time to time I work with a production company, assisting the main stylist with her events. It’s always great to work shows like these this past week. They are different from typical styling work, and easier I should say, because we have the designer clothing right at our fingertips from the sales floor, versus  on a television show, where you have to pull clothes from various locations, sign it out, and lug it back to the site for the fittings.  Styling is a lot of work! If you are considering a job styling, keep that in mind.

The model each had three different looks. They were on display in the center isle for about 20 mins in each look. Our models were great – a few started dancing to keep themselves entertained, the ladies ate it up and the guys bought the clothes they were rocking. That’s a job well done.

This is basically what you’ll find back stage. Our working space was about 6ft x 6ft – four dressers and four models. This event was much easier than a typical fashion show, because we were not stressing for time like you would be for a runway show.  The key here is to stay organized – clothes flying everywhere, knowing what shoe goes with what outfit, etc. Men are SO much easier than girls because they don’t have purses, accessories, etc, which can take forever! This show was awesome! Hardly working.

I met the lovely Sarah who was also working the event. She’s in school for Fashion Design at FIDM.   She got a few snaps with the boys. You might recognize Jonathan Waud from Season 2′s Make Me A Supermodel on the right. I had the pleasure of working directly with him for the past two events.   He’s a super nice guy, family man and now working and living  Los Angeles.

Gen Art LA Fashion Alumni Celebration kicks off LA Fashion Week at the Roosevelt

Gen Art La Fashion Alumni Celebration at Hollywood’s Roosevelt kicks off LA Fashion Week with model Amber Rose, an avid supporter of emerging designers.

Gen Art and Blink Los Angeles put on a wonderful evening at the Roosevelt Hollywood.  Just the right amount of glam to make your 4 inch heels worth it, jams to keep the energy  flowing and complimentary Kim Crawford wines for guests to lounge by the pool and enjoy. And of course,  a sneak peek of the intricate and beautiful Fall 2010 Designs of Gen Art’s Alumni.

Actress Ashley Palmer, actor Tionne Williams, television personality Ashlan Gorse, and actress Briana Evigan were all in attendance to support the event.

Each designer featured a model with a piece from their Fall Collection

Designers included Jeffrey Sebelia, Project Runway’s season three winner, known for his edgy and out of the box designs. Some have said he was the one people loved to hate.

Designer David Hershberger who c0-owns the line Endovanera, launched in 2005. Hershberger has described his line in 3 words: Dark, tailored, understated.

Endovanera available @ SSense

Brigid Catiis designer Raissa Gerona, known for her “upcycling.”  LA Racked quotes, “Gerona takes cool vintage pieces, deconstructs them, and puts them back together for her own easy, versatile, sexy, one-of-a-kind designs. You can’t get more exclusive than that.”

Designer Corrine Grassini featured one of my favorite designs for her line Rational Dress Society, who’s named after a 19th century London group who sought to reform women’s fashion by eschewing the constricting Victorian garments, hoping for the freedom to let girls wear what they want! Her line features soft, grecian-inspired gowns and creamy knits.

Designer Kit Scarbo from Season 4 Project Runway.

Project Runway Season Four alumni Designer Rami Kashou.

Melissa Coker of WREN

Elle magazine describes, “Just like her line of intellectually chic clothes, Wren designer Melissa Coker embodies irreverent cool California style with a twist.”

Orthodox’s Eric Nicolli with recent hired model Justin Bobby for his line.

A Night Easy On The Eyes, Ears and Taste Buds
By Kristen Conahan
A not too shabby 70 degree weather night at Hollywood’s Ron Robinson store last night!  Colorful new product lauches, stylish people and music to set your buyers mind at ease….
What went down….

Mattson 2 music to set the tone of the night…

The Mattson 2
Orginally from Encintas California, these boys started jamming in their basement at a young age, playing off one another’s sounds, to create something beautiful. They’ve done just that!! Listen to them now and you will hear that these boys have a gift. The twins, Jarrod and Jonathon Mattson, just got back from playing a few shows in the Netherlands and have been playing locally within the Action Sports/Fashion culture for sometime.  Some of the most advanced, mature beautiful sounds I’ve heard for a while.  Listen to them here…
